teddy

TEDDY DORMER'S DREAMS ARE NOT HIS OWN. Teddy Dormer lives with a condition unlike any other: in order to sleep, he must not only inadvertently steal the ability for others around him to sleep, but he also experiences their worst nightmares, memories, and darkest secrets. This is a condition he has lived with his entire life, often with dire consequences, but he has a system that works for him. Teddy lives on the road, perpetually moving from place to place, never subjecting his presence on the same population for longer than a single night. However, at a small hotel in Texas, Teddy discovers through a young woman’s dreams that she has been kidnapped. Driven by conscience, Teddy does what he must to find and free her from the clutches of evil. What he cannot anticipate, however, is how this singular deed will trigger a chain of events that will not only compel him to confront an evil from his past but will also lead him to an encounter with a force far beyond anything he has ever faced before – a force with the potential to change the world as it sees fit! Teddy is a novel about the dichotomy of the human condition, for even in the face of absolute madness, good may persevere and hope will endure. Available at: Amazon Barnes & Noble

I like psychological thriller movies, and this book conveys just as strong (sometimes stronger) of an immediate urgency and tension as any blockbuster. Teddy’s voice as a lead character hooks your interest quickly, and the overall structure of the story is impressive.

Upon his arrival in the idyllic coastal town of Scarborough Hill, Teddy is afforded only a brief night of rest before he receives a prophetic dream of nightmarish intent. All his life, Teddy has endured the dreams of others against his will. Without them, he is unable to sleep. Therefore, whereas most people would dismiss such a vision, Teddy knows the dream for what it is: a promise of violence that will rock the town to its core. Armed with the knowledge that atrocities will soon be committed, Teddy sets out, but the forces aligned against him are far worse and more powerful than he initially realizes. In the hours to come, Teddy will find himself locked in battle with a darkness that sweeps the entire town, a darkness many would believe demonic... but Teddy suspects its origins are far more sinister. As far as sequels go, this one doesn’t suffer from a “sophomore slump”—in fact, MDA’s knocked this one out of the park. ... it’s unbelievably dark. It’s also incredibly scary. I don’t scare that easy, and this book creeped me out like nobody’s business. The amount of weird stuff that happens to Teddy Dormer is of a level that will make you think “this can’t get any worse.” And when you reach that exact point in the novel—that’s when Anderson turns up the weirdness to eleven.

I devoured this book. ... I literally read the last 2/3rds of the book in one night because I HAD to see what was going to happen.
